Welcome to BBC Extra English. Today Alice and Louay talk about a new film, Blood Diamond.

This thriller is set in the 1990s in Sierra Leone, one of the world؟s biggest diamond producing nations.

The papers are saying that the film highlights the murky world of diamond production and smuggling.

It also brings the issue back into the news of conflict diamonds. These are diamonds which have been sold to fund wars.

People are saying that the film will put off people from buying diamonds. This would be bad news for the African economy.

The diamond industry has organised a campaign to promote diamonds. It will give money to an African charity if actresses wear diamonds to award ceremonies and hold up their right hand.

The director of Blood Diamond calls this a charitable bribe
